Four Dead, One Police Officer Wounded in Operation in Rio’s North Zone
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A State Police (PM) operation on Saturday, December 21st, in the favela community of Urubu, in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, resulted in four deaths and one state police officer injured by shrapnel from a grenade.
The public security officer was attended to at the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital and transferred to the State Police Central Hospital from where he was later discharged.

According to the State Police Secretariat’s press office, teams patrolling a wooded area in the favela were attacked and there was a confrontation.
Also according to the corporation’s report, after the police shooting, they found four injured. They were rushed to the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital in Méier.
As the four died, the case was reported at the Homicide Police Station in the capital. The Civil Police reported they have opened an investigation to determine the deaths and reported the men had not yet been identified.
The case was recorded as “death by the intervention of a state agent” and “attempted murder against a public security agent”.
Shooting in Rocinha
On Sunday morning, December 22nd, another shooting left a state police officer wounded. According to the MP, agents of the Police Pacification Unit of Rocinha, in the south zone of Rio who were escorting a team from the Fire Department were attacked.
One of the officers was injured and rushed to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, from where he was discharged. His identity has not been disclosed.
The firemen needed to enter the community to fight a fire in a location known as Largo dos Boiadeiros. The case was recorded at the 11th Police Precinct.
