Four Dead, Four Injured in Clash with Police in Rio de Janeiro
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Four people died and four were injured during an operation by the Police Pacification Unit (UPP) from Borel, in Tijuca, in the north zone of Rio. Seven wounded were rushed to the Andaraí federal hospital, but three were dead on arrival. The eighth person injured was taken to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, where he died while being attended to.

According to the State Police, all victims were involved in drug trafficking. A rifle, three pistols and an undetermined amount of narcotics were seized in the operation. With the death of the four suspected drug traffickers, the Pacification Police commandant reinforced policing efforts around the community, with state police officers from other units.
Another operation
In the Complexo do Salgueiro, in São Gonçalo, in the metropolitan region of Rio, 7th Battalion (São Gonçalo) police officers conducted an operation against drug trafficking, which resulted in two wounded soldiers and the arrest of an armed criminal. All three were sent to the Alberto Torres State Hospital.
One of the soldiers was injured by shrapnel and released after being given medication. The second was wounded with a rifle shot in the arm, underwent surgery and is stable. A rifle was seized from the criminal. At another point in the region, two people were arrested carrying a gun and drugs.
