Organizers Confirm December Lighting of Floating Christmas Tree in Rio’s Lagoa
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Lagoa Christmas Tree is confirmed for this year, an event celebrated annually in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone. The companies in charge of organizing the event and Light – Rio’s electric power concessionaire – made the announcement yesterday, November 14th.
As anticipated the event was only possible after settling a sponsorship agreement with Light. The inauguration is scheduled for December 14th.
The organizers expect approximately 200,000 visitors to see the floating Christmas tree this year. Dream Factory and Backstage are in charge of this year’s project.
In 2015, a storm in the city destroyed the tree a few days before its inauguration. It was rebuilt and inaugurated days later.
Over the next two years, it was no longer rebuilt, but it was brought back last year after having been sponsored by Petrobras.
Considered the largest floating tree in the country, the metallic structure was 70 meters tall in 2018 and included 900,000 LED lights, with eight scenographic stages.
