Petrobras Symphony Orchestra to Play Metallica’s “Black Album” this Wednesday
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Wednesday, June 19th, and Thursday, June 20th, the “Petrobras Sinfônica” (Petrobras Symphony Orchestra) are returning to Rio with another performance in their “Série Álbuns” (album series) as they present their interpretation of one of the bestselling rock albums of all time, Metallica’s “Black Album.”

Following on from their well-received “Bohemian Rhapsody” tribute to Queen at Queremos! Festival this past Saturday, June 15th, the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra will now be tackling the heavy, widescreen sounds of Metallica’s seminal 1991 “Black Album.”
“The Black Album was an easy choice,” comments Mateus Simões, executive producer of the orchestra.
“Metallica has already done a beautiful collaboration with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and they’ve always maintained a flirtation with classical music — something that is quite common in the metal universe,” he explains. Simões concludes: “So now we’re opening our hearts to this new challenge, which certainly promises to be unforgettable!”
This is the fifth edition of the orchestra’s “Série Álbuns”, which began in 2016, and which has already included tributes to Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of The Moon,” Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Los Hermanos’ “Ventura.”
These concerts are part of a larger effort by the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra to popularize classical music and bring the genre to a broader audience; their performances have already attracted more than 20,000 people.
Metallica’s fifth studio album, the “Black Album” sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. The 50-musician orchestra will be interpreting the album in its entirety, including its most famous tracks: “The Unforgiven”, “Enter Sandman”, and “Nothing Else Matters”.
The orchestra will be conducted by Felipe Prazeres with arrangements by Ricardo Candido.
