RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A judge of the Rio de Janeiro state court (TJ/RJ) suspended this Friday (23) carrying out a virtual auction of a painting with Nazi symbols. The information was confirmed to the newspaper O Globo.
The online event would sell the work adorned with a brooch full of swastikas and the phrase “The strange loves of Adolf Hitler”. The piece also bears a signature, supposedly by the German dictator.
Judge Angélica dos Santos Costa was granted the court injunction at the request of the Israeli Federation of Rio de Janeiro (Fierj).
“This is a fateful situation that generates damage to the requesting party and the entire Jewish community and other victims of the holocaust,” she said in an excerpt from the decision. The judge also ordered the seizure of the painting.
