Rio de Janeiro state records lowest number of homicides in July since 1991

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The state of Rio de Janeiro recorded the lowest number of homicides in the first seven months of the year since the historical records began in 1991.

The Institute of Public Security (ISP) released crime rates for July on Friday, August 20. Last month, 249 homicides were recorded, a 3% decrease from July last year. July also marked the lowest level on record for the index. From January through July, there were 1,975 homicide victims in the state.
