Rio de Janeiro State Records Second Coronavirus Death
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday, March 19th, the Rio de Janeiro State Health Secretariat confirmed the second death by coronavirus. The victim was a 69-year-old man. According to the government press office, the victim lived in Niterói, was diabetic and hypertensive.
He presented the first symptoms, such as fever, cough and myalgia, last March 11th. The victim had contact with an infected person who had traveled abroad.
According to the secretariat, so far Rio has recorded 65 cases, distributed among the following cities: Rio de Janeiro (55), Niterói (seven) Barra Mansa (one), Miguel Pereira (one) and Guapimirim (one).
Earlier, Rio’s government and Miguel Pereira’s City Hall had confirmed the first death as a result of the Covid-19 in the state. The victim was a 63-year-old woman. She died on Tuesday, March 17th, in the municipality of Miguel Pereira, where she had a home.
A housemaid, she worked in Rio de Janeiro, living there during the week, and had contact with her employer, who tested positive for the disease after returning from a trip to Italy.
