Elza Soares (Lapa) – Elza Soares, the Brazilian music goddess, will be performing tonight at Circo Voador.

Considered the best singer of the millennium by BBC in 1999, Elza will be launching her latest album, “Planeta Fome”.

Samba Que Elas Querem (Centro) – Samba Que Elas Querem will perform on Centro’s streets this Friday.

The all-girl ensemble will bring the best of samba to Banca do André, in Cinelândia, starting from 7 PM. DJ Bieta will play in the intervals.

Forró de Bamba (Lapa) – It’s time for some live forró music at Clube dos Democráticos, in Lapa.

Trio Forrózão will make everyone dance until the late hours with traditional forró. DJ Taroba will spin Brazilian music during the intervals.

Bartman (Flamengo)
This eccentric boteco does everything right. With great Brazilian bar food, excellent beer, and a loyal crowd, Bartman also sets itself apart from the competition with its mad decor of kitschy comic book regalia. Try the carne seca with fried aipim for a real hearty treat.

Casa da Cachaça (Lapa)
This cultural heritage site of Rio de Janeiro was the first cachaçaria to open in the city, back in 1960. And by the look of things, they’ve been busy ever since, with over 200 cachaças piled up the walls and hanging from the ceiling. The regular caipirinhas here are a great value and pack a punch. For an interesting twist, try a flavored shot, such as the açaí-infused cachaça.

Winehouse (Botafogo)
Winehouse is a wine bar run by a British expat who has brought an eclectic range of wines to Rio including a mix of fabulous national and international favorites. There is also a great selection of nibbles and cheese boards. For those who are not too keen on wine, there are plenty of beer and cocktail options, too. Happy hour begins at 5 PM and finishes at 8 PM.
