RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This coming Sunday, October 7th, will see Irish and American ‘Celtic punk’ band Flogging Molly take to the stage at Lapa’s Circo Voador for their first concert in Brazil since their debut six years ago. Support is coming from Jimmy & Rats, a super-group formed by Jimmy London, formerly of Matanza, and Brazilian punk band Rats.

Flogging Molly are one of the most popular and influential proponents of ‘Celtic punk’ in the history of the genre. Formed in Los Angeles by Irish expatriate Dave King, the band are influenced by artists such as The Pogues, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, and Cockney Rejects.
Their debut studio album, 2000’s ‘Swagger’ was mixed by legendary musician and producer Steve Albini, who has previously worked with artists such as Nirvana, and The Breeders.
They have since released five more studio albums and are currently on a South American tour promoting their 2017 album, ‘Life is Good.’ Fans of the band can expect to hear such classic songs as ‘Drunken Lullabies,’ ‘The Likes of You Again,’ ‘Swagger,’ ‘Requiem for a Dying Song,’ and ‘What’s Left of the Flag.’
Flogging Molly’s first and only appearance in Rio de Janeiro was back in 2012 when they played the Teatro Rival Petrobras in Rio’s ‘Centro’ (city center). The band have won many fans around the world with their mixture of Irish lyricism and punk rock.
They’ve also managed to remain politically charged while garnering commercial success, with their last album before ‘Life is Good,’ 2011’s ‘Speed of Darkness,’ reaching number nine in the Billboard Top 200.
Tonight, in Lapa’s legendary Circo Voador, they will be supported by Jimmy & Rats, a unique project of Jimmy London, famous Brazilian presenter, actor, and musician, and formerly of Brazilian rock group Matanza.
He will be joined by ‘Rats,’ a collection of veteran musicians from Rio de Janeiro’s underground rock scene, in what is sure to be a wild introduction to a great show.
