RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Going strong for over twenty years and known for their songs that range in style from indie rock to art rock to psychedelic rock to power pop, the American quintet Spoon will perform live in Saúde’s Sacadura 154 on Thursday, October 15th.

Spoon’s songs have been featured in shows including “The Simpsons”, “Veronica Mars”, “House”, “How I Met Your Mother”, and films including “Horrible Bosses” and “500 Days of Summer.” During the last two decades, the band has released multiple EPs and singles and eight studio albums.

They are currently on tour of their most recent release entitled, They Want My Soul, and will arrive in Sacadura 154 thanks in part to the help of fans and Queremos, a Rio based crowdfunded kickstarter, that connects musicians, agents, fans and venues.

Spoon began in 1993 in Austin, Texas following the meeting of vocalist and guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno while both were playing in the group, The Alien Beats. Naming themselves Spoon after a song of the same name by legendary German experimental rock band Can, Daniel and Eno went on to release their first EP, Nefarious, in 1994.

Catching the attention of independent label, Matador Records, Spoon then released their debut full-length album, Telephono in 1996. During the years and seven albums that followed, Spoon moved to Elektra records for 1998’s A Series of Sneaks, then to Merge records for 2001’s Girls Can Tell, 2002’s Kill the Moonlight, 2005’s Gimme Fiction, 2007’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, and 2010’s self-produced Transference, and then to Loma Vista for their most recent release, 2014’s They Want My Soul.

When asked during a 2014 interview about the four-year gap between Transference and They Want My Soul, Daniel told The Line of Best Fit; “Listen, if it was up to me, we’d put a record out every year. But the process can be draining sometimes, and by the end of that cycle, for Transference, we were all a little burned out.”

Adding, “I more or less jumped straight back onto that treadmill by starting a new band, Divine Fits, with Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade, and that was necessary for the future of Spoon, really. I needed something that was going to reinvigorate me, to excite me about working on new stuff again.”

The album was well-received both by critics and fans, reaching number four on the US charts. In addition to label changes and variations in styles and genres, during the last two decades Spoon’s lineup also saw many changes, with Daniel and Eno as the only two constant members. Currently, Spoon also features bassist Rob Pope, and keyboardists and guitarists Eric Harvey and Alex Fischel.

Performing after Spoon on Thursday night will be the Brooklyn-based synthpop/nu-disco duo, Holy Ghost! with Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel. Additionally DJs Yugo and Duda will spin.
