Lightwire Theater Brings ‘A Very Electric Christmas’ to Rio this Weekend

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Friday, November 23rd to Sunday, November 25th will see the stage of Rio’s ‘Teatro Riachuelo’ (Riachuelo Theater) lit up by ‘Um Natal Eletrizante’ (A Very Electric Christmas), the new and spectacular stage show brought to Brazil by American theater troupe Lightwire.

New Orleans theater troupe Lightwire Theater are stopping over in Rio for three days and seven performances of their latest Christmas-themed show, A Very Electric Christmas. This family-friendly spectacle uses puppets, technology and music to tell the story of a young bird named Max and his festive adventures in the North Pole.

The story is set to timeless Christmas classics, including songs by Mariah Carey, Tchaikovsky and Nat King Cole.

Supported by Dell’Arte Soluções Culturais as well as the US National Endowment for the Arts, Lightwire Theater’s A Very Electric Christmas will thrill spectators who recently enjoyed the equally impressive Evolution Dance Theater’s ‘Night Garden’ or saw Cirque Du Soleil when they last visited the ‘Cidade Maravilhosa.’

Formed in New York by Ian Carney and Corbin Popp, Lightwire Theater has gone on to tour the world with their ‘electroluminescent’ theatrical works which bring together musical performances, theater and cutting-edge technology.

Their performances have been called ‘absolutely incredible’ by Rolling Stone magazine, and they were recently featured on French TV, on TF1’s, The Best: Le Meilleur Artiste. With the timely return of Rio’s Lagoa Christmas tree, this show is another great way to light up the holiday season this year.
