Rio’s Governor Misleads on Doctorate Degree From Harvard, says Globo

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The former federal judge and governor of Rio, Wilson Witzel, holds at least seven degrees in his academic history.

In the Lattes curriculum – a platform in which professionals list achievements throughout their careers – he lists undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at several universities.

Attendance at the prestigious Harvard is one of the highlights: there, Witzel would have taken a sandwich course (when one attends part of a doctorate course at an international educational institution that is a partner of the university where one studies).

In what concerns the governor, the postgraduate degree in “political judicialization” he has attended at the Fluminense Federal University since 2015, would have partly been done at the Cambridge campus in Massachusetts. The problem is, it never happened, says Globo in its latest report.

The UFF informed Brazilian news outlet Globo that the governor never even showed interest in participating in the selection. Only two students enrolled in the same Witzel graduate program attended.

Candidates must apply and pass through the university screening in order to obtain a scholarship, which is financed by the Brazilian government.
