RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Wednesday, May 16th, Shell Open Air opens its 2018 edition at Marina da Glória, in Glória. Until June 3rd, the event will promote outdoor movie sessions to the Carioca audiences from Wednesdays to Sundays, bringing a selection of classics and recently released blockbusters that range from comedies to dramas.
In Shell Open Air’s program, each day of the week will be dedicated to a different film genre. Musicals, such as “Saturday Night Fever” (1977), will always be screened on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, it is time for the classics, like “Titanic” (1997), and also for the infant-juvenile audiences, with films like “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” (2017).
Friday nights will be dedicated to the latest releases, like “Black Panther” (2018), while on Saturdays the event will display Academy Award-winning titles, like “Cinema Paradiso” (1988). Those looking for a weekend family program will certainly find it at Shell Open Air on Sunday, when films like “Despicable Me 3” (2017) will be included in the lineup.
The opening night of this edition will screen, at 9PM, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986), a comedy blockbuster starred by American actor Matthew Broderick. This Thursday, May 17th, Oscar-winning “Titanic” (1997), one of the most talked about films of all times, will also be exhibited at 9PM.
Shell Open Air is expected to attract crowds to Marina da Glória on Friday nights, with a great musical lineup awaiting for the audiences right after the film sessions. The upcoming Friday (May 18th) will screen “Black Panther” (2018), which will be followed by the shows of Pretinho da Serrinha (samba music), Black Band (black music), AfroJazz (jazz with Afro Brazilian music influences), and other guest artists.
All the 22 long-length films participating in the Shell Open Air 2018 will be displayed on a 325 square meter screen (same area as a tennis court), which was directly brought from Switzerland. Apart from the audiovisual and musical lineup, Shell Open Air will also provide a nice food court, including stands like Al Taglio’s pizzaria, Che Boludo (Argentinian empanadas) and Berliner House (German food).
