The Rolling Stones Return to Rio February 20th at the Maracanã

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Iconic English rock band The Rolling Stones will return to Rio de Janeiro to perform live at Maracanã Stadium on Saturday, February 20th. The group is stopping in Rio as part of the ongoing ‘America Latina Olé’ stadium tour, a follow-up to their successful 2015 North American stadium, ‘ZIP CODE’ tour.

“We love playing Latin America and are excited about going to some cities for the first time,” Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger said in a press release. “The audiences are among some of the best in the world, they bring incredible energy!”

“We had a great time performing in stadiums last summer in the U.S. and are excited to come to Latin America for the first time in ten years,” Richards added. “The fans are amazing.”

The ‘America Latina Olé’ tour kicked off on February 3rd, in Santiago, Chile. It then moved to La Plata, Argentina and then to Montevideo, Uruguay, a debut for the group in that city.

The highly-anticipated show in Rio de Janeiro will mark the first of four Brazilian stops on the tour. From the Maracanã Stadium, the band will head to São Paulo and debut in Porto Alegre before leaving Brazil for Lima, Peru; Bogotá Colombia; and then finally to Mexico City, Mexico.

Formed in London in 1962, The Rolling Stones initially consisted of vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, bassist Bill Wyman, guitarist Brian Jones, pianist Ian Stewart, and drummer Charlie Watts. Following multiple lineup changes during its over fifty-year history, the band currently consists of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood plus various touring members during shows.

Since its creation, the band has released 29 studio albums, two dozen compilation albums, multiple live albums, and over one hundred singles. During the show on Saturday, fans can expect to hear many well-known hits by the group including “Brown Sugar”, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, “Midnight Rambler”, “Paint it Black”, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, “Miss You”, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It)”, “Gimme Shelter”, “Honky Tonk Women”, “Tumbling Dice”, “Start Me Up”, “Out of Control” and “Sympathy for the Devil.”

Bands Doctor Pheabes and Ultraje a Rigor will perform to open the night. Gates will open to public at 4PM and The Rolling Stones show is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:30 PM.
