Plácido Domingo July 11thFriday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Called the greatest tenor of all time, Plácido Domingo returns to Rio after a nineteen year absence to perform as part of the ‘Concert in Rio 2014,’ at Barra da Tijuca’s HSBC Arena tonight.

Domingo will perform with Puerto Rican soprano Ana Maria Martinez, Chinese pianist Lang Lang, and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra led by American born pianist and conductor Eugene Kohn.

In addition to a program of arias, Spanish zarzuelas, and Broadway hits, Domingo will present Brazilian songs including popular sambas and works by famed Carioca composer Heitor Villa-Lobos.

It’s time for tech and deep house tonight as the Brotherhood party returns to Copacabana’s Fosfobox. Special guests Come and Hell (DJs Komka and Mari Perrelli) and resident DJs Ricardo Estrella and Nana Torres will spin in the subsolo (basment). Tonight Centro’s Espaço Acústica will host the Pop ‘N’ Roll party, villians edition with special “Maleficent” themed magic performances and distribution of masks of famous villians. Vocalist and guitarist Pedro Holanda will start the night off at 7:30 PM at Carioca da Gema with Leo Russo following at 9:30 PM. Then at 11:30PM, singer Teresa Cristina & Grupo Semente will fill the venue with the sounds of lively samba as they perform their reinterpretations of the works of Noel Rosa, Chico Buarque, Gonzaguinha, Ismael Silva and Paulinho da Viola, among others..

Singer Jorginho do Império will follow at 11PM with a performance that will feature his hits including; “O Imperador”, “Água no feijão” and “Na beira do mar”. At 2:30AM, the Bateria do Império Serrano will play and help the crowd to keep dancing through the night. Then at 3:30AM, Cassiano and his Trio Beija will present their Feira de São Cristovão (Saint Kitts Fair) show which features some of the best Forró Pé de Serra that can be heard anywhere in Rio tonight.
