Monday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – The second edition of the Blues Festival begins at Bar do B in Laranjeiras tonight and its a festival not to be missed by blues fans in Rio.
Tonight guitarist Maurício Sahady will kick off the festival with Gil Eduardo on percussion and Ugo Perrota on bass. Special guest São Paulo native, Giba Byblos will be on guitar.
After years of experience with clubs and concerts both within Brazil and abroad, Bernard Fuerth opened Bar do B in 1996. Hosting the bi-weekly blues nights every Monday and Thursday for over five years, Fuerth built up a name for Bar do B. Over the years the venue has hosted many popular active musicians in the Brazilian and international blues scene including; Blues Etílicos; Álamo Leal; Americans J.J. Jackson and Russell Thomas, Jr.; and Spanish harmonica player Quique Gomez, among multiple others.
Last year Fuerth asked Cesar Lago, bassist for Rio blues trio Beale Street, to program a week-long Blues Festival. What resulted went over so well that the festival returns stronger this year. Lago now also has a co-programmer Claudio Bedran, bassist for Blues Etílicos. The festival will run through Saturday, May 31st, and promises to be six nights of the best live blues you will find in Rio de Janeiro.

For more dancing and singing head to Lapa’s Carioca da Gema tonight as the venue will come alive with three hours of live samba provided by brilliant percussionists, vocalist Rixxa and members of the Zeca Pagodinho band. Vocalist and guitarist Bruno Brito will start off the night at 8PM.
