We have the top three picks for this Saturday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

PARTY:
Vem Cá Minha Flor @ Prado.co (Gávea) – Another great pre-Carnival bloco gets underway this weekend with bloco ‘Vem Cá Minha Flor’ (Come Here, My Flower).

The bloco plays a repertoire that is in constant transformation, bringing a mixture of everything that excites the crowd, whether it’s axé, samba-reggae from the eighties and nineties, old funk, forró, as well as rock and pop hits. There will also be DJ sets courtesy of DJ Chu and DJ João Rodrigo.

Tickets are between R$30 – R$70 and the party gets started at 10:30PM.

LIVE:
Alceu Valença, Orquestra Voadora and Maestro Spok @ Fundição Progresso (Lapa) – Alceu Valença is coming to Lapa’s Fundição Progresso for a special pre-Carnival performance.

The one-off night also brings the characteristic energy of the Orquestra Voadora, with inspired re-readings of Brazilian and world music classics. Plus Maestro Spok and the Orquestra Recife will open the night with a tribute to the ‘Afrociberdelia’ album by Chico Science and Nação Zumbi.

Tickets are available from R$60 and the night gets going at 10PM.

PARTY:
Palaphita: O Retorno @ Palaphita (Gávea) – This party signals the return of Palphita, a venue known for its stunning views of Christ the Redeemer and high energy events.

The line-up for the night includes DDP, Amanhã é Sábado, Carol Emmerick, Bahruth, Bê Malta, Rama, Luckas and special guests. There will also be an open bar of beer and vodka drinks until 9PM.

Tickets are between R$45-R$70 and the party starts at 7PM.

LOUNGES, BARS & PUBS:

Winehouse (Botafogo)
Winehouse is a wine bar run by a British expat that has brought an eclectic range of wines to Rio including a mix of fabulous national wines and international favorites. There is also a great selection of nibbles and cheese boards. For those that aren’t too keen on wine, there is plenty of beer and cocktail options too. Happy hour begins at 5PM and finishes at 8PM.

Void/House of Food (Botafogo)
Blending culinary, drinks and fashion, the bar/store invites a different chef to prepare a new menu every week. Besides great imported beer labels, it usually serves delicious veggie food and homemade burgers.

Pavão Azul (Copacabana)
Pavão Azul is a lively bar in Copacabana, famous for its exceptionally cold beers and prawn pastels. It gets crowded there every night, making every day of the week seem like the weekend.

Canastra Bar (Ipanema)

Blue Agave (Ipanema)
Blue Agave Ipanema is always a great place for Mexican food, drinks and for watching live sport streams and broadcasts. Just around the corner from Posto 9, the bar is also known for its mostly English-speaking staff and crowd which frequents the establishment. Be sure to check out Blue Agave in Copacabana also for a great night out.
