We have the top three picks for this Saturday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

PARTY:
Festa Amo MPB @ Gafieira Elite (Centro) – One of the most popular clubs in the city center welcomes party-goers to celebrate the best of classic Brazilian music! Expect a mixed set of samba, MPB and Brazilian rock music from the DJs Rafa Martins (I Love MPB) and Larissa Vasco (Tropicália).

Cans of Antarctica and Brahma are available from R$8, with caipirinha, cuba libre and gin and tonics all on sale for R$10.

The night gets going at 11PM and there is free entry before 11:30PM if you write your name on the event wall. Otherwise tickets are between R$15-R$25 depending on the time of entry.

PARTY:
Pré-Carnaval @ Leviano Bar (Lapa) – Carnival season is almost with us and Leviano Bar in Lapa is putting on a special ‘Pré-Carnaval’ party featuring the blocos ‘Que Pena Amor,’ famous for their pagoda (Brazilian style of music similar to samba). Then it will be the turn of the bloco ‘Empolga às 9,’ the traditional bloco of Ipanema, who will be exciting the crowd with a wide-ranging repertoire of samba and pop.

The DJ for the night is Ailton Salotto Areas, who will be playing the best of pop rock, hip hop, reggaeton, funk and electronic music. Plus, there are special drinks promotions, such as a bucket of six Budweisers for R$50, and two-for-one on caipirinhas until 11PM.

This party gets going at 6PM and tickets are available from R$20 – R$30.

Pré-Carnaval – Av. Mem de Sá, 47 – Lapa

PARTY:
Sábado Tropical @ Bar do Nanam (Centro) – This party will feature music from Afro Ribeirinhos with their unique blend of carimbó, cumbia, rock, salsa, and bolero all brought together to create some of the most danceable sounds imaginable.

There will also be DJ sets courtesy of DJ Jada and DJ Mito.

This night should get going at 10:30PM and although it is free, Bar do Nanam encouraging patrons to buy their drinks from the bar and support the musicians by making a contribution to the musicians’ hat that gets passed around the crowd.

LOUNGES, BARS & PUBS:

Winehouse (Botafogo)
Winehouse is a wine bar run by a British expat that has brought an eclectic range of wines to Rio including a mix of fabulous national wines and international favorites. There is also a great selection of nibbles and cheese boards. For those that aren’t too keen on wine, there is plenty of beer and cocktail options too. Happy hour begins at 5PM and finishes at 8PM.

Void/House of Food (Botafogo)
Blending culinary, drinks and fashion, the bar/store invites a different chef to prepare a new menu every week. Besides great imported beer labels, it usually serves delicious veggie food and homemade burgers.

Pavão Azul (Copacabana)
Pavão Azul is a lively bar in Copacabana, famous for its exceptionally cold beers and prawn pastels. It gets crowded there every night, making every day of the week seem like the weekend.

Canastra Bar (Ipanema)
The Canastra Wine Bar in Ipanema offers a great selection of wines and cheeses and is quickly becoming known for its nice atmosphere and friendly service.

Blue Agave (Ipanema)
Blue Agave Ipanema is always a great place for Mexican food, drinks and for watching live sport streams and broadcasts. Just around the corner from Posto 9, the bar is also known for its mostly English-speaking staff and crowd which frequents the establishment. Be sure to check out Blue Agave in Copacabana also for a great night out.
