Sunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Iconic 1990s grunge band Pearl Jam returns to perform live in Rio de Janeiro at the famed Maracanã Stadium tonight.

Consisting of members Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Matt Cameron, Pearl Jam last performed in Brazil as a group during the 2013 Lollapalooza music festival in São Paulo and Vedder was last in Rio during May of last year, playing two shows as part of a solo tour.

Since the band’s formation in 1990, Pearl Jam has released ten studio albums and has sold an estimated sixty million albums worldwide.

They are known for singles that include “Jeremy“, “Alive“, “Even Flow”, “Daughter“, “Go”, “Spin the Black Circle”, “Last Kiss”, and “Just Breathe / Got Some.” They are also well known for their political and social activism and live covers and songs that address current issues faced by the bands’ fans around the world.

Imperator – Centro Cultural João Nogueira in Méier wraps up its three days of celebrations of Dia da Consciência Negra (Black Awareness Day) today. There will live shows, performances, workshops and children’s activites. Urubu Malandro will perform MPB at 5:30PM and Tia Surica will launch her new DVD “Tia Surica – Poderio De Oswaldo Cruz” live with special guest Velha Guarda da Portela at 7:30PM.

Jazz no Morro- 1 Year (Cantagalo)
Today and tonight, the weekly Jazz no Morro event returns to Gilda in Cantagalo to celebrate its first anniversary. Nova Lapa Jazz will perform live and DJ João Santiago will spin the best of Brazilian music, pop, and classic rock during show intervals.

It’s time once again for the best of house, electro, and pop as the twelve-hour Duo party returns to Gávea’s chic 00 (Zero Zero) club. DJs Marcela Penteado and Menna Barreto will start the party around 5PM by spinning on the deck until midnight and DJs Bruno Pacheco and Claudio Macedo will spin inside beginning at 10PM continuing throughout the night until 5AM Monday morning.

Roda de Samba and Football with Ballet 2 Passistas (Football) (Lapa)
Sundays are all about samba and soccer at Lapa’s Leviano bar. Every week beginning at 5PM the venue plays live games on their screens with samba dancers following the matches and the group Samba Di Buteco playing classics of the genre, including works by Arlindo Cruz, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira, among others. Additionally, DJ Mukato will spin during show intervals.

It’s time to dance as singer-songwriter Rogê returns for his weekly show at Lapa’s Carioca de Gema. The lively performer will present his own compositions as well as covers of works by Jorge, Djavan, and Jorge Benjor, among others.
