Rio Nightlife Guide for Tuesday, November 20, 2018

The Rio Times, Nightlife Guide, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Nightlife, Bars, Clubs, Parties

We have the top three picks for this Tuesday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

LIVE:
Samba Tá com Tempo?! (Centro) – This is a special edition of Samba Tá com Tempo?! in honour of ‘Black Consciousness Day’ in Brazil. Bar do Nanam, one of the most faithful establishments of the ‘Beco das Artes’ party street, will be hosting an evening of Samba. ‘A heavyweight team meets through the samba verve, to spread the joy of sounds and encounters.’ is roughly how they describe themselves. Today they will be joined by DJ Gustavo Goranmo, of Baile do Ademar fame.

Samba Tá com Tempo?! is an evening where new and seasoned samba musicians come to revel in the spirit of the music for its own sake. Expect plenty of spontaneity, participation and joie de vivre. The location can be hard to find if it’s your first time, yet the host gives helpful directions: Bar do Nanam ‘near the Tiradentes square, in the Rua Imperatriz Leopoldina, on the corner with Luís de Camões.’ However, they stress, ‘If you are curious, just come!’

Proceedings usually get underway at 8PM, and for more information, be sure to visit their event page.

LIVE:
O Quarteto Geral @ CoLAB (Botafogo) – Every week, CoLAB opens its nightly programming by getting some of the best musicians in Rio’s instrumental jazz scene to perform live at their space. This Tuesday, O Quarteto Geral are bringing their sound to the space. The group takes its starting point from the work of the influential instrumental group from the late sixties, Novo Quarteto.

The members of O Quarteto Geral, coming from different musical backgrounds, come together in this project with the intention of providing a careful look at the music of Brazil’s North-east. They reinterpret, with a contemporary vision, classical pieces of the armorial movement, such as Mourão (César Guerra-Peixe), Mulher Rendeira (Zé do Norte), combining the sounds of viola, flutes, pipes, guitar and zabumba.

This should be a great free night, starting at around 8PM, for those interested in jazz, the musical heritage of Brazil, or both.

O Quarteto Geral – Rua Fernandes Guimarães, 66 – Botafogo

LIVE:
Vox Sambou (Haiti) @ Manouche Club (Jardim Botanico) – On the day of black consciousness, Vox Sambou, considered the ‘Haitian hip-hop ambassador,’ performs at Manouche, the underground club of Casa Camolese, to celebrate, in high style, the date of Zumbi dos Palmares.

Vox Sambou returns to Brazil to support the release of his most recent EP, ‘Eritaj.’ With lyrics in Creole, French, English, Spanish and Portuguese, Vox Sambou engages the public with contagious melodies and lyrics about unity, solidarity and the legacy of their ancestors. Musically, he mixes hip hop with afrobeat, Latin grooves and reggae beats, as well as musical elements from Haiti.

Tickets are available at the venue, and the night starts at 9PM.
