foofightersSunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – The Foo Fighters arrive in Rio tonight to perform live at the famous soccer (football) stadium, Estádio do Maracanã.

The American rock band, fronted by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, was formed by Grohl in 1994 in Seattle, Washington, USA following the death Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

What began as a solo, one-man project grew into a band, with current members including Chris Shiflett on lead guitar, Pat Smear on rhythm guitar, Nate Mendel on bass and Taylor Hawkins on drums.

Since their formation, the Foo Fighters have released eight studio albums and have had hits with songs that include “Learn to Fly”, “All My Life”, “Everlong“, “Best of You”, “The Pretender“, and “These Days”, among others.

They are stopping in Rio tonight as part of the ongoing Sonic Highways World Tour. The tour is taking place in support of their eighth album Sonic Highways, which was released in November of last year.
