Sunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – The Brazilian metal band Angra takes the stage tonight at Circo Voador. Formed in the early Nineties with the goal to join the ranks of heavy metal, classical and Brazilian rhythms, Angra obtained worldwide notoriety with their debut album, Angels Cry, released in 1993.

Their next album, Holy Land, Angra used elements typical of Brazilian rhythms and produced a video for MTV. The video of “Make Believe” was one of the most viewed videos of that time in Brazil.

After the departure of the vocalist Andre Matos, Edu Falaschi took his place at the helm of the group and the band went on to release Rebirth, which ushered in a new wave of success for the band.
