Brazil opposition lodges complaint against Minister of Economy and Central Bank President
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “It is illegal for high-ranking public officials, with access to privileged information, to keep companies abroad in a tax haven,” said on Twitter Chamber of Deputies opposition leader deputy Alessandro Molon.
“While Paulo Guedes’ offshore company earned millions in a very short time, inflation punishes the people, who queue up for the leftovers of skin and bones,” the Socialist Party of Brazil’s deputy leader lamented.

The complaint was signed by the main opposition legislators, among them deputies of the Workers’ Party (PT), the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), the Democratic Labor Party (PDT) and the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB).
With the complaint lodged with the Prosecutor’s Office, the opposition has requested an investigation into the actions of both and that, in addition, they be summoned to appear before the Chamber to provide explanations.
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ (ICIJ) investigation that led to the Pandora Papers points to the fact that the two leading names in Brazil’s economy set up companies in tax havens which they never reported to the public.
