The legislator sustained five fractures to the face (two to the nose and others to the sinuses); she fractured a vertebra in her spine and broke two teeth. Her knees, rib area, and shoulder were bruised and purple.

In an interview with SBT, the deputy said she doesn’t remember what happened. She was in one of the rooms of the apartment and her husband was in another. The building where the property is located is designated for legislators in Brasilia.

“On Sunday, 7 AM, I wake up between my room and the bathroom, in the closet, in a pool of blood. It was very cold. After the fright, the first reaction I had was ‘Oh, I passed out, right? I dragged myself into my bathroom, and when I got to the bathroom I saw blood all over the bathroom, the rug was soaked with blood, and what attracted my attention was the mirror, there was blood sprayed on it. But how? How could blood from my nose be on the mirror? But I was totally stunned, I immediately called for help,” she recounted to SBT.

She suspects that she may have been the victim of an attack. “Despite receiving death threats all the time, I don’t take them seriously anymore. I used to, but I don’t anymore, so I dismissed [the Legislative Police], as I do every night. I can’t say that it was a political opponent or even if it was someone who broke into my house. But this is a public place, the key to a functional apartment is not a key only I have, other people in the Chamber’s departments have it,” she said.
