Carrefour to open positions for refugees in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On August 6 Carrefour Group will promote an initiative exclusively intended to hire refugees in Brazil. The plan is to fill as many openings as possible according to candidate availability and job compatibility.

Currently, the business conglomerate employs some 340 staff of over 20 different nationalities and, of these, more than 200 are in a refugee situation.

In order to qualify, one of the prerequisites is that the refugee professional identifies with Carrefour’s purpose of contributing to a better world, implementing this approach in all their relationships.

All stages of the selection process are conducted online, except for interviews with the manager which are held in person so that candidates may visit the unit and understand the task to be performed. Applications will be accepted on August 6.

Other initiatives

In addition to the so-called D-Day, the company is sponsoring the Empowering Refugee Women project, an initiative developed by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the Global Compact Network Brazil and UN Women, to promote the access of women in refugee situations to the Brazilian labor market since 2015.

The initiatives are also intended to promote the professional inclusion of people from minority groups and thereby reinforce the valuation and increase of diversity and internal inclusion.

The company also announced in April the Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Program (IDE) aimed at the development and career acceleration of employees from minority groups (black people, people with disabilities, transgender people and refugees). During the program, the selected employees undergo a technical qualification and training program.
