Federal Inspector Files Disciplinary Claim Against Lava Jato Prosecutors

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The National Inspector for the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (CNMP), Orlando Rochadel Moreira, filed a disciplinary claim against Lava Jato prosecutors Deltan Dallagnol and Roberson Pozzobom, on Tuesday, July 16th, as a result of messages exchanged between the two and disclosed by The Intercept and Folha de S.Paulo. Both will have ten days to respond to the charge.

The decision was issued in response to a request made by the Workers’ Party (PT), based on news disclosed last Sunday, July 14th, according to which Deltan had set up a business plan for events and lectures to profit from the popularity and acquaintances obtained during the Lava Jato investigations.

On Dallagnol’s position, the PT asserts that there was a deviation from the function of a civil servant “towards the practice of personal lecturing activities, therefore disconnected from the purposes of the positions held,” and also “obtaining advantages in addition to the wages for the position not contemplated in the law.”

As for Pozzobon, the party claims that the prosecutor lacked “personal decorum, zeal and probity, and exculpatory private conduct. To the extent that, when alerted by the claimants to the potential for an investigation into his commercial activities, he would have jokingly uttered the expression ‘Let them come,'” says the PT.

In the decision, the inspector states that there is a “potential deviation from the conduct” of members of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, which, in theory, “may represent misconduct.”

“In fact, at this initial moment, a preliminary assessment of the content conveyed by the press is required, particularly given the volume of information contained in communication outlets,” he said.
