Fire reaches state park area in the metropolitan region of São Paulo

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Four fire trucks are fighting the flames in the Juquery State Park, located between the cities of Franco da Rocha and Caieiras.

A fire affects a wooded area of the Juquery State Park, located between the cities of Franco da Rocha and Caieiras, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The park covers an area of 2 thousand hectares, with cerrado (savannah) vegetation.

According to the Fire Department, four trucks with water were sent to fight the fire. The area affected by the flames is not yet known, nor the causes of the fire, but one of the factors may have been the dry weather prevailing in the region this Sunday (22).

Today’s afternoon started with strong sunshine and rising temperatures in the São Paulo capital. According to the weather stations of the Emergency Management Center of the Municipality of São Paulo, thermometers show 28°C in Perus, in the North Zone and 27°C in São Mateus, in the East Zone. The relative humidity in these locations is 28% and 31%, respectively.

Based on the monitoring done by the CGE team, at 11:30 AM, the Municipal Civil Defense Coordination (COMDEC) decreed a state of alert for low air humidity in the entire São Paulo capital. According to CGE, until next Thursday (26), the dry and warm air mass over the Southeastern and Midwestern states continues to prevent the advance of cold fronts. As a result, there will be a predominance of sun, heat, and low air unity in the city of São Paulo.
