Government Releases R$223.8 Million for Emergency Assistance and Receiving Venezuelans

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro issued on Tuesday (30th) a provisional measure to release R$223.8 million for emergency assistance and receiving Venezuelan citizens.
As it is a provisional measure, the release of resources is enforced by a law published in the “Official Gazette”. As of now, the National Congress has up to 120 days to approve the measure. If the text is not approved in the period, it will lose effectiveness.
Under the text in the provisional measure, the money will be used for “emergency assistance and humanitarian assistance for people from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” but there are no details on how money should be used.
Venezuela faces a deep political, economic and social crisis and citizens have fled to other countries in the region.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), inflation in the country will exceed 10 million percent this year and unemployment in Venezuela could hit half the population.
