In January, the recently re-elected federal deputy resigned from office and left the country claiming to be a victim of death threats. He was succeeded in office by David Miranda, the husband of Glenn Greenwald, the journalist responsible for the leak of alleged messages between Sérgio Moro and Deltan Dallagnol, which occurred during Operation Lava Jato.

The request for an investigation into the alleged sale of Jean Wyllys’ mandate was submitted by deputy José Medeiros (Pode-RN).

According to information on the site O Antagonista, the legislator said that “such facts do not seem coincidental.” In the same document, Medeiros also asks for a check of possible money transfers from Greenwald to Jean Wyllys.

Jean Wyllys, born Jean Wyllys de Matos Santos on March 10th, 1974 in Alagoinhas, Bahia,  is a Brazilian lecturer, journalist, and politician who rose to fame after winning the fifth season of Big Brother Brasil.

He was also notable as being Brazil’s second openly gay member of parliament and the first congressman who was a gay-rights activist. He has been compared to Harvey Milk for his work. In 2019, citing death threats, he gave up on his congressional seat.
