Over 60% of adult Brazilians administered first Covid-19 vaccine dose

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health on Monday, July 26, announced that Brazil has surpassed the mark of 60% of its population partially vaccinated against Covid-19 – only the eligible population is included in the count, i.e., people over 18 years of age.

“More than 96 million Brazilians, of the 160 million over 18 years of age, have been administered their first vaccine dose nationwide,” the Ministry celebrated.

The data also show that 35.9 million people (22.4%) have been administered the second dose or the single dose and have completed their immunization cycle.

Vaccines

To date, 164.4 million doses have been sent to states, 81.5 million from AstraZeneca/Oxford; 60.4 million from Coronavac/Sinovac; 17.8 million from Pfizer/BioNTech; and 4.7 million from Janssen, the single-dose immunizer.

All vaccines are duly tested, are safe, and are authorized by the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency to be administered.

The federal government has also contracted more than 600 million vaccine doses through agreements with different laboratories, to be delivered by the end of the year. For the month of August, at least 63 million are expected to reach the country.

Brazil has also signed a technology transfer agreement from AstraZeneca to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), which will enable domestic production of the vaccine’s active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).
