Paraguay makes progress in electric vehicle use

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “We are the country producing the most renewable and clean energy in the world, if we encourage electromobility, we are not only helping the environment, we are also replacing oil imports and saving foreign currency,” said CADAM’s president Miguel Carrizosa.

In this respect, CADAM explained that at a national level advances have been very significant considering that 3 years ago this business was virtually non-existent, with the private sector, CADAM members, committing to start importing fully electric vehicles into the Paraguayan market.

Thus, it should be celebrated as a milestone within the automotive segment, as it undoubtedly became a way to revolutionize mobility.

Other more notable advances are the development and completion of the long-awaited “Green Route,” driven and promoted by Itaipú Binacional, and the efforts of the Yacyretá Binational Corporation to also electrify the Asunción – Encarnación section. As a last step, a bill submitted by Senator Osorio covering many aspects, both for vehicle imports and for the installation of charging stations, is worthy of note.

Paraguay currently has an electric vehicle fleet of a little more than 1,000 units and as fast charging stations are installed, where 80% of a battery’s capacity can be charged in 10 minutes, more people will be encouraged to buy them.

In addition, electromobility will make everything more cost-effective, just like cell phone processes. Batteries will last longer, cost, and weigh less. There are brands now considering discontinuing the production of non-electric vehicles. Thus, this day is celebrated in the hope that Paraguay will continue to advance in this direction.
