Paraguay September tourist arrivals up 26% over August

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The official figures show that of the over 41,000 tourists who entered the South American country between January and September, 37.9% were Brazilian and 15.9% Argentine. In addition, 7.5% of visitors were Bolivian, 7.4% German, 6.4% North American and 5.5% Spanish.

The portfolio pointed out that the rising figures “coincide with the vaccination processes of the national and global population, as well as the gradual lifting of restrictions due to Covid-19,” while highlighting the “joint efforts” between the public and private sectors for the reactivation of a sector in crisis.

Paraguay is in a moment of pandemic control, with the number of cases and deaths gradually decreasing in October. In fact, Wednesday was the third consecutive day with no deaths due to Covid-19, with the cumulative total remaining at 16,228, according to the Ministry of Health’s daily report.

On Wednesday, 33 new infections were recorded in the 1,912 samples analyzed, bringing Paraguay’s accumulated number of cases to 460,615 since the first positive SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus test was detected on March 7, 2020. Among these cases, 41 people are hospitalized, 15 of whom in intensive care units (ICU).

With respect to vaccination, with a population of 7.3 million, Paraguay has reached 2,830,409 people vaccinated with one of the two doses against the disease and will soon begin to administer booster doses to healthcare personnel and people over 50 years of age.

Last Tuesday, after more than 500 days closed, the land border between Posadas (in northeastern Argentina) and Encarnación (southern Paraguay) was reopened.

The crossing between Brazil and Paraguay has been open since October 15, 2020.
