RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The body of teacher Marcelo Henrique Correia Reis was buried yesterday, July 29th, in the Caju Cemetery in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro. The 35-year-old teacher was stabbed to death by 44-year-old street dweller Plácido Correa de Moura, near the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro.
The crime occurred at Rua Abelardo Lobo around noon on Sunday, July 28th, and was the second committed that day by the perpetrator. The first victim was electrical engineer João Napoli, 34, who stopped his car at the traffic light on the street, near the entrance to the Rebouças tunnel. Camera footage shows that the street dweller waited for the car to stop to attack João Napoli.
João’s girlfriend, Caroline Moutinho, escaped from her seat but was also injured by Plácido. João died instantly and Caroline is hospitalized in the Miguel Couto Hospital. According to the municipal health secretary’s report, she is out of danger.
Plácido was shot and arrested by state police. In the attempted arrest, three other people were injured.
According to the State Police, Plácido injured police officers during the approach. The street dweller was taken to Miguel Couto Hospital.
Plácido Correa de Moura is a crack addict. He has three past police bookings. In January 2017, he attacked a man with a knife. In October of the same year, a pedestrian was attacked with a brick and in February of last year, he was arrested for contempt of state police.
