Small businesses generated 71% of jobs through September in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The job creation data are part of a survey conducted by the Brazilian Micro and Small Company Support Service (SEBRAE), based on the Economy Ministry’s General Records of Employed and Unemployed (CAGED).
MSEs opened 1.2 million more jobs than medium and large companies in the first 9 months of 2021.

In September alone, small businesses were responsible for opening 72.5% of formal jobs in the month, with 227,900 of a total of 313,900 jobs created last month. When broken down by economic sector, only small businesses posted a positive balance in job creation in all segments.
The services sector stands out, with 103,400 job openings in micro and small companies out of a total of 143,400 positions recorded by CAGED. According to SEBRAE, the progress of vaccination against Covid-19 has driven the sector’s rebound.
Commerce was the second leading sector in job creation in September, with 54,400 jobs in micro and small companies, out of a total of 60,800.
Next come industry (37,600 out of a total of 76,200) and agriculture and cattle-raising (3,000 out of 9,100). In construction, the positive balance last month was due solely to MSEs. Small businesses generated 27,500 jobs, while medium and large companies closed around 3,000.
