RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A couple was detained Friday night at Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, trying to board to Belgium carrying 20 kilos of cocaine.
The drugs were hidden in double bottoms and bottles of shampoo and creams, reports G1 on its online newsfeed.
Federal Police agents found the drugs during a routine inspection of the luggage through x-ray equipment. Three suspicious suitcases led to a search for the owners, who were scheduled to fly to Brussels.
The couple was located and followed the successful luggage check. The man and the woman, from Curitiba, were accompanied by a child who was referred to the Guardianship Council.
The pair were arrested in the act and charged with international drug trafficking. They spent the night in Galeão police station and were later relocated to Benfica detention center.
Further on Friday (19th) a man carrying 3 kilos of cocaine stashed in the double bottom of a suitcase was also detained on charges of international drug trafficking. He was to board a flight to France.
