Fugitive Convicted of Extortion in Brazil Detained in Spain

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - A 67-year-old man who had fled Brazil and was wanted by Interpol for extortion committed in 2006, was arrested by police in the city of Maliaño, in the Spanish region of Cantabria, as announced yesterday.

The Cantabrian police received an e-mail from Interpol, an international police agency, on June 16th requesting that the fugitive be placed in custody for the purpose of extradition, due to cases in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in 2006, according to Spanish news agency Efe.
