RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The men’s final of the Jeffreys Bay (J-Bay) heat of the World Surfing Circuit went down in history even before it began. With Gabriel Medina and Ítalo Ferreira deciding the South African title, it was the first all-Brazilian final in the history of the prestigious event.

The Cup went to Gabriel Medina, his first title in South Africa. Medina scored 19.50, out of a maximum of 20 points, against 16.77 for Ítalo.

Gabriel is the first goofy-footed surfer (surfing with his right foot ahead of the board) to win Jeffreys Bay since 1984, the first edition of the South African stage in the world surf elite.
