RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Striker Gabriel Jesus said in an interview aired yesterday on “TV Globo” that it is possible to picture Brazilian teams playing on an equal footing with the top clubs in Europe.
Specifically mentioning Flamengo, the Manchester City and Brazilian national team athlete praised the quality of the players, manager Jorge Jesus and the quality of soccer that has been played by the leader of the Brazilian Championship.
“To be honest, as a soccer player, I think so (it’s possible for a Brazilian team to play on an equal footing against Liverpool, Manchester City or another European team). It’s a type of soccer that I’ve been following, Brazilian soccer. Flamengo has a squad of great players and managers. It’s been playing very well,” he said.
The question was asked due to the prospect of Flamengo facing Liverpool in the Club World Cup, should they win the Libertadores Cup over River Plate. The champions of South America’s premier club competition will be decided on November 23rd, in a single final in Santiago.
