Bolsonaro’s Rating in São Paulo Is Third Worst Among Brazilian State Capitals
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Jair Bolsonaro’s administration has one of its worst evaluations in São Paulo city, according to an IBOPE survey disclosed on Saturday, October 17th. The survey was conducted in 25 capitals. São Luís, in Maranhão, has not yet participated of this survey round.
In São Paulo’s capital, 48 percent consider the President’s management bad/terrible, 27 percent assess it as great/good, and 24 percent as average. The capital that worst assesses Bolsonaro is Salvador, in Bahia. For 62 percent of its citizens, the President’s government is bad/terrible. Only 18 percent consider it great/good, and 17 percent as average.
Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul, shows the second worst rating, with 50 percent of respondents considering the government to be bad/terrible, 26 percent considering it excellent/good, and 23 percent as average.
At the other end, Boa Vista, Manaus and Porto Velho emerge as the cities with the best rating of the current administration. In the capital of Roraima, the government is considered great/good for 66 percent, bad/terrible for 15 percent, and average for 18 percent.
For 54 percent of the citizens of Manaus, the government is great/good, for 26 percent it is bad/terrible, and for 19 percent it is average. In the capital of Rondônia, 50 percent of residents rate it as great/good, 29 percent as bad/terrible and 21 percent as average.
EXAME/IDEIA: National rating
In early October, an EXAME/IDEIA exclusive survey asked Brazilians how they rated the Bolsonaro government. After a drop in September, the President’s approval ratings climbed again to 39 percent. Disapproval remained stable since the last survey, at 42 percent.
Approval is highest in the North (57 percent) and Midwest (53 percent) regions, considering those that fully approve and those that partially approve the President’s performance. The Northeast is the region with the highest disapproval rate, at 48 percent. For Brazilians with elementary school only, 46 percent approve of the way Bolsonaro governs. Among those with higher education, the total and partial disapproval stands at 44 percent.
