São Paulo Now Counts Six Times as Many Coronavirus Deaths as China Each Day

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Sunday, March 29th, the State of São Paulo recorded 98 deaths related to the Covid-19. There are now 1,451 confirmed cases of the disease in the state.

According to the balance made by the Health Department, an average of 7.5 people are dying per day since the first death was recorded, on March 17th. In a similar 13-day interval, China reported a daily average of 1.3 deaths, according to the government survey.

“The first death in the Asian country occurred on January 11th. On the 23rd, China recorded 17 deaths. During that 13-day period, the country also jumped from 41 to 571 confirmed cases,” the report says.

The 14 new deaths reported on Sunday in São Paulo concern individuals being received by the private health care network.

The majority of them, 13, occurred in São Paulo’s capital. One of the deaths, of an 89-year-old man, occurred in São Bernardo do Campo.

Five women (71, 84, 87 and 90 years old), six elderly men (60, 67, 79, 76, 63, 83) and two young men (26 and 33 years old) died in the capital, during the stage of investigating potential comorbidities and clinical history.

Until mid-week, only the São Paulo capital recorded deaths related to the Covid-19. Now, the municipalities of Vargem Grande Paulista, Guarulhos, Taboão da Serra, Embu das Artes, Sorocaba, São Bernardo do Campo and Ribeirão Preto count at least one death.
