São Paulo state government to open business offices in Europe and the U.S.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Over the coming months, the São Paulo state government will open two offices to boost business in various areas, including agribusiness, in Europe and the United States.

The announcement was made by Governor João Doria on Thursday, April 8, during the SuperAgro 2021 forum, an event that discusses the most important issues in Brazilian agribusiness.

“In July, we will inaugurate an office in Munich, Germany, that will support all sectors of the São Paulo economy. And in November, we will open the New York office to serve the United States and Canada market. The InvestSP agency does all this. The state of São Paulo pays only the director, but all the equipment, trips, employees are paid for by all the associated companies”, said Doria.

These two new units are in addition to those in Shanghai, China, and Dubai, in the Arab Emirates. The governor also reinforced that it was the Chinese office that helped bring the Sinovac laboratory and the Butantan Institute closer and close the agreement to produce the Covid-19 vaccine in Brazil.

Doria also pointed out that during the pandemic, the agribusiness sector did not reach a standstill. “Agribusiness here in São Paulo did not stop. We maintained all operations, even with successive quarantines, to combat the pandemic. And the sector showed robust growth in the last 12 months,” he said.

Fast internet for the field

The Agriculture and Supply Secretary of São Paulo, Gustavo Diniz Junqueira, also participated in the panel. He detailed a state government project to bring faster internet, 4G, to all rural areas within 24 months. The total investment cost is R$300 million.

“We are working together with the private sector, with the communication companies to take 4G internet to the entire countryside. We did a mapping with 450 base stations to bring internet to the whole field. It is not a very expensive project; it is a R$300 (US$54) million project. And this is a work that we are quite advanced in,” said the Secretary.
