Cannabis accelerator wants startups watching Uruguay, which legislates outside the box

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Uruguay is at the forefront in legislating outside the conservatism box, a pioneer from legalizing abortion to legalizing marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes since 2013, despite some setbacks in the full development of the local market.

The Green Hub accelerator – which has just extended its 3rd call for startups’ applications to July 18 – has partnered with Uruguayan incubator Ingenio.

“As the reality in Brazil is limited for the sector because of regulatory issues, we have expanded our borders to offer startups opportunities to test their products and business outside Brazil, and Uruguay will be a great market for our accelerated startups which will certainly be ahead as the Brazilian market opens up to other possibilities such as the industrial use of cannabis,” Alex Lucena explains, The Green Hub’s CIO.

As a result, the consultancy’s call for new entrepreneurs and scientists is not limited to Brazilians, but extends to the whole world.
