Uber Unveils 2019 Travel and Eats Delivery Trends Worldwide

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In 2019, the Uber platform exceeded 100 million active consumers per month: this includes car passengers, people ordering deliveries through Eats, and users of scooters and electric bicycles. Drivers, in turn, make 18 million trips a day.

The company collected the most visited tourist attractions in the world by people using Uber: the Empire State Building leads the ranking, with Disneyland and the Louvre growing in strength in relation to previous years. Here is the complete list:

Uber Eats reaches a billion deliveries in the world

Uber Eats has been growing fast and made its billionth delivery this year. Several users are ordering deliveries at tourist sites: there were thousands of deliveries through the platform at the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Park (San Francisco), and the CN Tower in Toronto.

The most ordered dish of the year at Uber Eats was French fries. The company also mentions some curious statistics: if all the lettuce stalks from the salads delivered in 2019 were to be stacked, they would have the height of 893 Burj Khalifas; and the total sushi delivered this year has almost the same weight as 8 humpback whales.

Users have traveled approximately 40 million kilometers on Uber’s bicycles and electric scooters, which use the Jump brand in the USA. This is almost five times the distance traveled in 2018, illustrating how the company is dedicated to growing in the mobility segment. It only recently debuted in Brazil, starting with the city of Santos (São Paulo State).

Paris (France), Sacramento (USA), and Seattle (USA) were the cities recording the highest number of kilometers traveled on bicycles with electric assistance. Meanwhile, the ranking of scooters is led by Berlin (Germany), Málaga (Spain) and San Diego (USA).

Uber only focuses on positive aspects in this retrospective, but had a difficult year: it debuted on the stock market, but shares have plummeted 35 percent since. Until September, the accumulated loss in 2019 was US$7.4 billion (R$30 billion). The company dismissed approximately 1,200 employees to cut costs.
