Facebook’s ‘Messenger Rooms’ Will Enable Video Calls with 50 Participants
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Facebook’s messaging app, Messenger, has just been enhanced with a feature that allows video calls with up to 50 callers, under the name Messenger Rooms. The goal is to make Messenger a rival of similar formats, like Zoom.
According to Time, Messenger Rooms does not require a Facebook account and will be a free service with no usage time limit. “All products [currently available] are mainly focused on companies and we thought we could do something for the consumer.
Messenger Rooms was designed to be more casual. “Not everything has to be planned in advance,” you can read in Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s statement.
Facebook’s plan is that users will eventually be able to join Messenger Rooms conversations from WhatsApp and Instagram. Messenger Rooms will be launched this week in a number of countries, gradually expanding to more markets over time.
