TIM Enables 4G Coverage in All Municipalities in Paraná and Santa Catarina States
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – TIM has completed the implementation of the 4G network in all municipalities in Paraná and Santa Catarina: the last activations were made in Bom Sucesso do Sul and Monte Castelo, which now have higher speed internet on their cell phones. Vivo, Claro and Oi still do not provide full 4G coverage in these states.
Considering the whole country, TIM is the leader in the number of 4G coverage in cities: the operator completed 3,490 cities with LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology, followed by Vivo with 3,210. Claro ranks third with 2,803 cities, while Oi is in the last position with 4G in 1,019 cities.
TIM widely uses the 2,600 MHz (band 7), 1,800 MHz (band 3) and 700 MHz (band 28) frequencies, the latter released after the end of analogical TV. A refarming process is being performed in some locations, activating 4G in the 850 MHz (band 5) and 2,100 MHz (band 1) frequencies.
LTE Advanced technology is used by TIM in 1,096 Brazilian cities: it joins several frequencies to deliver higher speeds and better user experience. VoLTE, which allows using the 4G network for voice calls, is available in 3,448 cities, while the NB-IoT network for Internet of Things is present in 3,300 cities.
In addition to Paraná and Santa Catarina, TIM provides full coverage in all cities of São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro.
