RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The decision was made by director Jack Dorsey. He has said that the ban on all types of paid political advertising will apply from November 22nd onwards, but there are some exceptions such as ads in support of voter registration, which will still be allowed.
Twitter has taken this step amid growing criticism that paid advertisements on social media lead to smear campaigns and that many of them contain misconceptions or false information.
The measure contrasts with Facebook, which has stated that it will not ban political advertising and will not check the content of politicians . . .
