Next Huawei Top of the Line Smartphone Will not Feature Android, Says Google

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Reuters has disclosed that Huawei’s next top of the line smartphone, the Mate 30, will not be allowed to use Google’s apps and services or even the Android system. Confirmation was made by a Google spokesman, stating the situation is the result of Huawei’s inclusion in the US ‘black list’.

Huawei was prevented from acquiring services and equipment from US companies in late May, with the license granted at the time and so far has seen no change to ensure use of Android in the Mate 30. This is because it is a new product and not a device already on the market.

Reuters further discloses that the top of the line may be introduced on September 18th in Munich, Germany.

Huawei has developed an operating system – called HarmonyOS – that will serve as an alternative to Android if it is prevented from continuing in the Google ecosystem. However, a spokesman for the Chinese company told Reuters that the plan is to remain with Android.

“Huawei will continue to use Android OS and the ecosystem if the US government allows us to. Otherwise, we will continue to develop our own operating system and ecosystem,” the statement reads.
